Zane Cole

Zane Grey Cole, 86, of McDade, formerly of Smithville, passed away Thursday morning, September 1, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Zane was born to Joe Cole and Bessie Lee Robbins Cole on December 13, 1929. Zane grew up and attended schools in Smithville. After graduation, he worked for the City of Smithville as a Lineman. Shortly into a new career, he was drafted into the United States Marine Corps. During his time of active duty, he married Charlene Speed of Kansas City, Missouri. They celebrated 64 years of marriage in July. Zane worked for 24 years, until retirement for Texaco Chemical Company. He was most revered and known for his true passions in horse trading and ranching.

Zane is preceded in death by both his parents; his sister, Bessie Jo Bishop; his brother, Collis Armstrong; and his daughter-in-law, Merna.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene Rose Cole; his four sons, Terry Cole of McDade, Lane Cole and wife Rhonda of Elgin, Kevin Cole and wife Deborah of Utley, and Kyle Cole and wife Debra of Elgin; eight grandchildren, Reagan, Lane II, Courtney, Kristin, Krystal, Caitlin, Russell, and Garrett; 11 great-grandchildren; and many dear friends.

A Memorial Service, Celebrating Zane’s Life, will be conducted at the Lost Pines Cowboy Church of Elgin on Friday, September 9, 2016, at 2:00 PM. Inurnment will be private.
