Willie Maude Cottle went to be with her Heavenly Father, at the age of 103, on Thursday evening, January 17, 2013, at home, surrounded by her loving family. Willie Maude was born the fifth of eight children to Thomas Lee Snowden and Lou Ella Hague Snowden in the Knobb Springs Community of Bastrop County, Texas on September 28, 1909. She grew up in McDade, Texas and spent her early childhood on the family farm. After graduating from Bastrop High School, she attended Mary Hardin Baylor and the University of Texas, where she studied English and Botany. In 1934, she married her childhood friend who would become the love of her life, Wilbur Walter Cottle, Sr. Willie Maude worked hard all her life she worked while attending school beginning in the 11th grade and eventually dedicated her life to her husband and children.She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ dedicating her time and service to every congregation she attended. She loved to play bridge and attend the symphony with her husband and friends. After Wilburs retirement, they enjoyed traveling recreationally in Europe, and while there, they volunteered their time helping with several Church of Christ Congregations.She was preceded in death by both her parents her husband of 57 years, Wilbur Walter Cottle, Sr. her three sisters, Mamie, Lela, and Velma and her three brothers, Otho, Cecil, and Hague. She is survived by her only son and daughter, Wilbur Walter Cottle, Jr. and wife Ginny of Murphy, TX and Shirley and husband Wendell Hammond of Elgin, TX five grandchildren, John Hammond and wife Ida, Laura and husband David Thibodeaux, April Heffley, William Cottle and wife Shelly, and Raina and husband John Hambly seven greatgrandchildren and two greatgreatgrandchildren her sister, Gladys Lewis of Graham, TX and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all of her caretakers, who took such wonderful care of her during the past few years and became so loved by her. Memorial contributions can be made in Willie Maude Cottles Memory to the Pew Fund at the Elgin Church of Christ, 703 North Avenue C, Elgin, Texas 78621.The family will receive guests at the Elgin Funeral Home from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM Sunday, January 20th. A funeral service will be conducted at the Elgin Church of Christ at 2:00 PM Monday, January 21st with Tom Nuckles and John Poole officiating. Interment will follow at the McDade Cemetery.
