Viola Armstrong

Viola Oley Armstrong passed away on December 19, 2013 in Georgetown, Texas. Viola was born on October 14, 1919 in Shackelford County, Texas to Edward and Mabel Burgeson Armstrong. Her mother died when Viola was 6 months of age, and she was raised from that time on by her maternal aunt, Myrtle Burgeson Larson and her husband Oscar Larson. She attended the rural school at Lund, Texas and attended and graduated from Taylor High School. She received her B.A. from Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, Texas in 1941. She devoted herself to her students for 43 years, teaching at Carlson Rural School and Llano for 3 years and in Angleton, Texas for 40 years.Viola was confirmed into the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Lund, Texas, but became a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Angleton during her life there. She was a member of several church and professional organizations including the Brazoria County Extension Education Club. After retiring, she was instrumental in organizing the community food pantry to aid the needy of Angleton. Miss Armstrong was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mabel Armstrong and Oscar and Myrtle Larson brother, Franklin Larson and sister Cordelia Ekenstam and niece Patricia Ann McCullough. She is survived by one nephew, Todd and wife Carolyn Larson one niece, Diann and husband John Fox all of Taylor great nieces and nephews Jay McCullough, Joeli Tipps, Jared Fox, Christopher Fox, Sam Fox, Amanda Larson, Sarah Larson, and great great nephews Thomas Fox and Jase Lindgren also by her Ekenstam nieces and nephews Gene, Fred, Grace and Margaret.Miss Armstrong requested that any memorial contributions be made to a food pantry of choice.
