Tommy E. Lawhon, 68, passed away peacefully at his home in Bastrop, on Thursday, October 15, 2015. Tommy was born on December 6, 1946 to Edgar and Mildred Lawhon, in Bastrop, Texas. He grew up and attended schools in Elgin. Tommy served his country for two years in the United States Army while stationed in Germany. After returning home from the service, he began several jobs as a heavy equipment operator. While working fulltime, he attended college in the evenings to gain his certification as a welder. He went on to teach welding before ultimately beginning his 21 year career at the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Bastrop, where he was supervisor of the welding shop until his retirement in 2000. Tommy loved fishing, fox and wolf hunting, gardening, "84-Low," and chocolate pie.He survived by his wife of 43 years, Janell Collins Lawhon and their son, David Alan Lawhon; three daughters and one son, Glenda and husband Tommy Holloway, Debbie and husband Don Stacks, Gene Hartgrove, and Mona and husband Art Dunham; nine grandchildren, Angie Holloway, Mark Holloway, Patrick Stack, Matthew Dunham, Autumn Fox, Jacob Dunham, Tyler Hartgrove, Wyatt Goertz-Lawhon, and Tatum Hartgrove; 10 great-grandchildren; four sisters, JoAnn Machen, Julia Ruth Taylor, Naomi Alford, and Irene Roberts; numerous nieces, nephews, and many life-long friends. You are dearly loved and will be greatly missed by your family.The family will receive guests at the Elgin Funeral Home from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM Thursday, October 22nd. A Funeral Service will be conducted at the Elgin Funeral Home at 1:00 PM Thursday, October 22nd with Reverend, Bill Pearson officiating. Interment will follow with Military Honors at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
