Stella Katie Trueper Grant, 94, of Elgin, Texas, passed away Friday morning, September 26, 2014. She was born, Saturday, April 24, 1920 in West Point, Texas to Edwin Trueper and Olga Freudenberg Trueper. She married Calvin Grant of Kyle, Texas on September 8, 1942 in Cotulla, Texas.Stella and Calvin moved to Elgin in 1949 with daughters Pat and Shirley. The family then moved to McDade in 1963 where Stella became an active member in the McDade community and church for over 45 years. Her activities in the McDade community included helping to build Faith Lutheran Church of McDade, where she was a faithful member for over 50 years. She was also very active in the VFW Ladies Auxillary and the McDade Watermelon Association. She also worked for Fleming Memorial Hospital in Elgin and when the hospital closed, she moved with Dr. Roy Morris and staff to the new Medical Center. She was always a care giver and after retiring from the hospital she continued to provide private home health care for a number of years. Stella is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Olga Trueper husband, Calvin Grant brother, Wilburn Trueper and sister, Leona Trueper Davis. She is survived by one sister, Glennie Trueper Pohler of McDade two daughters, Pat Stubbs of Georgetown and Shirley and husband John McKamie of Elgin two grandsons, Steve Merka and wife Carol of Argyle and Eric Merka and wife Cindy of Elgin two granddaughters, Tami and husband Duane Bond of Round Rock and Shannan Stubbs of Georgetown nine great grandchildren Tyler Barchenger of Round Rock Jordan, Clint, and Cade Merka of Argyle Grant and Blake Merka of Elgin Madison, Jaxen, and Parker Bond of Round Rock one niece Fay Betak two God Children, David Trueper and Ruth Walton and sisterinlaw Olivia Trueper.Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church of McDade, Texas. The family will receive guest at Elgin Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church of McDade, Pastor, Mike Warner, with Lee Eschberger officiating. Interment will follow at Siloah Cemetery in McDade.
