Sara Mazone

November 20, 1961 — January 21, 2022

Elgin, Texas

Ms. Sara Lee Mazone entered this life in Elgin, Texas on November 20, 1961, born to Alma Mazone and James Chatman.  Sara was a long life-time resident of Bastrop County attending the public schools.  She passed away peacefully at home on January 21, 2022, surrounded and supported by her family.

“A Time To Plant”

Growing up with a strong Christian foundation, Sara professed a belief in Christ and was baptized at an early age at Mount Moriah Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Jones.  She often fellowshipped with her family at the Weeping Willow Baptist Church with Pastor T. L. Garner, Jr.  Sara worked in and out of season, always exemplifying what it meant to be a God-fearing woman. She always held on to her strong ties at Mount Moriah.

“A Time To Play and Work”

Sara had many jobs but only one title, ‘the cook’. She worked at Austin State School for about ten to fifteen years, Sonic and the Golden Age Nursing Home, and several other jobs throughout Elgin.  Sara was a friendly person, never meeting a stranger. She always had a story to tell about something or just an encouraging word for anyone she ran into. Many may describe her as sweet but feisty – for she told it like it is…keeping it real!  Sara loved her children, and family holding a special place in her heart for her grandbabies. She was very proud of them and spoiling them was her easy job.  Sara loved to travel, visiting her daughter as time allowed it and she enjoyed listening to gospel music, blues, dominoes, hanging with friends and family.

“A Time To Die”

Sara led an active and fulfilling life, doing it her way. She is preceded in death by both parents, sibling: Edna Mae Robinson, Evelyn Fay Tolliver, and Milton Walker.

“A Time To Celebrate”

Sara leaves to celebrate and cherish fond memories are her special friend, Weldon Vincent, her daughters, Danielle Vincent-Collins and her husband, Maurice Collins, Sr., and Ester Vincent; one bonus daughter, Tanedria Vincent; six grandchildren, Jonte Collins, Jaythan Collins, Zayla Contreras, Ariana Contreras, Maurice Collins, Jr., and Journey Vincent; five siblings, Flossie and her husband, Reverend Willie Simmons, Sr, Ethel Mayzone and her husband, Charles Carter, Katherine Walker, Denise Thomas and Joseph Mayzone; a multitude of other relatives and friends, including aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins covering three and four generations. Sara also leaves Mount Moriah and Weeping Willow Baptist Church families.
