Ruby Eklund Johnson, 99, of Lund Community, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, February 6, 2013. Ruby was born in the family farm house, the second youngest of nine children, to Hulda Peterson Eklund and Andrew Pier Eklund, on December 31, 1913. In 1884, both her parents migrated from Smland, Sweden and settled in the Lund Community, where they established their family farm and home, which still stands to this day. She was baptized and confirmed as a young girl at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lund. After marrying her husband, Lawrence Johnson, she became a devoted and loving housewife to Lawrence while they continued to farm until retiring to Elgin. Ruby enjoyed playing domino games, such as moon and fortytwo with her friends sharing memories, with her nieces and nephews, whom she loved and considered as her own children religiously reading the Austin American Statesman every morning for many years she love going to the Czech Melody House on Sunday afternoons and had a deep sense of patriotism and regard for her country and the military that she expressed by always flying and American FlagRuby was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lawrence Johnson both her parents five brothers, Walter, Clarence, Carl, Wilbur, and the youngest of the siblings, Rudolph, whom was with the Lost Battalion in World War II and three sisters, Mabel Lychman, Elsie Monson, Emma Kreidel.She is survived by her four nieces, Celestia Paehl, Betty Carter, Grace LeMier, and Evelyn Sinnigson, her devoted care giver and devoted friend for many years four nephews, Edward Monson and wife Janet, Weldon Eklund and wife Cheryl Homer Johnson and wife Kay, and Doyle Johnson.Memorial contributions can be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Lund, P.O. Pox 469, Elgin, Texas 78621, and the Harbor Hospice of Austin, 1221 West Ben White Boulevard, Building A, Suite 208.A funeral service will be conducted at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 9th with Dale Kessel officiating. Interment will follow at the Lund Cemetery.
