Ruby Cain

Ruby Simank Cain was born on January 5, 1915 in Thorndale, Texas, the third of six children to Ben Simank and Bertha Noack Simank. She was called to the Lord on April 19, 2014, at the age of 99.Ruby graduated from Thorndale High School, and then worked at Butts Dry Good. Ruby married Haywood Cain on February 15, 1941 and gave birth to three children. During their marriage, Ruby worked as an accountant for the Elgin Butler Brickyard, followed by 13 years of service at the Elgin Medical Center. One of Rubys great sources of pride was being 100 Wendish, and only the second generation to be here in the United States. Her grandfather, Andreas Symmank Symank Simank, was born onboard the Ben Nevis ship in route to the United States from Germany. Ruby enjoyed traveling around the world, and she was active in the community through The United Methodist Church of Elgin and as a member of both the Texas Wendish Heritage Society and the Elgin Historical Society. Ruby also spent many hours volunteering, but has at last received her greatest reward of being reunited with her heavenly Father. Rubys first child, Morris Ray, died in infancy. Ruby is survived by her sister, Joyce Hyde her sisterinlaw, Loretta Simank her children, Marie Cain Richards and Robert Leonidas Cain and Maries daughter, Rachel Cain Bailey and husband, Eric G. Bailey, and their daughter, Abbie Bailey Bobs son Bobby Cain and his son, Harlan Cain.The family will receive guests Monday, April 21, 2014 at the Elgin Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be conducted Tuesday, April 22nd at the First United Methodist Church of Elgin at 1:00 PM with Pastor, Joyce McCormick officiating. Interment will follow at Adina Christian Cemetery in Lexington, Texas.
