Roosevelt Pohler

Roosevelt Julius Pohler, R.J. Pohler, went to be with his heavenly father on June 2, 2013 in Bastrop, Texas. He was the first born of two children to Ben and Emillie Pohler in Shiner, Texas on July 15, 1929. R.J. grew up farming in the Flatonia, Texas area. After marrying the love of his life, Glennie on July 18, 1953, they lived in West Point, Texas and Elgin, Texas, before moving to McDade, Texas in 1958. R.J. and his wife have been longtime residents of McDade faithfully serving the community at every opportunity and were honored to be named the McDade Watermelon Festival Parade Marshalls in July 2003. R.J. worked at The Shiner Brewery in Shiner, brickyard in Elgin, and the Texas Highway Department for over 30 years. R.J. enjoyed being outdoors, cutting grass for neighbors and the local school and church, watching Westerns, spending time with his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, and tinkering with engines of all types.He was preceded in death by both his parents and his sister, Gladys Pohler Denyer.He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Glennie Trueper Pohler of McDade, his daughter, Ruth and husband Lee Walton, Jr. of Elgin his grandson, Dylan Carter and wife Staci Carter of Elgin his granddaughter, Destany Carter and companion Rey Ramirez of McDade his youngest grandson, Wesley Carter and wife Amanda of Elgin and six greatgrandchildren, Tait Carter, Tanner Carter, Cooper King, Demi Carter, Abby King, and Cason Carter. He will be greatly missed. Memorial contributions can be made in R.J.s memory to the Faith Lutheran Church, 230 Waco Street, McDade, Texas 78650.The family will receive guests at the Elgin Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday, June 5th. A funeral service will be conducted at Elgin Funeral Home at 10:00 AM Thursday, June 6th with the Reverends Mike Werner presiding. Interment will follow at Prairie Valley Cemetery in West Point, Texas.
