Ronnie Anthony Simmons was born April 28, 1962 to the late Clay Lawrence Simmons Sr., and Myrtle Lee Simmons. Ronnie grew up on the southside of Elgin with his siblings and loved to be around his family.
Ronnie attended Elgin Public Schools and graduated from Elgin High School in 1981.
Ronnie accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at the Winn’s Memorial Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Franklin.
Ronnie was all about being self-sufficient and making sure he had enough money in his pocket. He was employed with Acme Brick Company in Elgin, Texas for thirty (30) years as a forklift driver. He continued to work for Acme Brick until his health began to fail and became disabled in 2021. Not only was Ronnie faithful at Acme Brick, but he also worked various part-time jobs around the city of Elgin..
On October 20, 2001, Ronnie united in Holy Matrimony to Gloria Patterson. To this union, he was blessed with an extended family of two (2) daughters Charlotte and April.
To have known Ronnie, you would have known he was a family man, no nonsense, straight forward caring individual who never met a stranger. Ronnie was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan.
On Saturday, May 28, 2022, Ronnie departed his earthly tabernacle. Ronnie was preceded in death by his father, Clay Simmons Sr., brothers, Clay Simmons Jr., and Vic Simmons. His grandparents Searcy and Lillie Mae Simmons and Bud and Etta Mae Hill. He also was preceded in death by his in-laws, BJ and Maxine Patterson, and sister-in-law Theresa Wright.
Ronnie leaves to cherish his memories, His Wife of twenty (20) years Gloria, Daughters, Charlotte Richardson, and April Jones. Mother; Myrtle Simmons. Grandchildren; Lyric Richardson, Tyrone Richardson Jr., Braylon Richardson, Saria Faye Rodriguez, Ethan Jose Jarquin, Nevaeh Victoria Cooper, and Aaliyah Lynn Cooper. Sisters; Joyce Baker, Dollie Simmons, Lois Moore, Tammie Simmons, and Margie Simmons. Brother-in-law; Harvey Patterson, and Sister-in-Laws; Melba Patterson, Debra Patterson, and Terri Lynn Manor. Uncle; Robert Simmons Sr. Aunts; Erma Gean Simmons and Margaret Simmons. He also leaves to cherish his memories many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ronnie will lie in state at Elgin Funeral Home, Friday, June 10th from 12:00 PM until 6:00 PM. A Home-Going Celebration will be conducted at First Baptist Church of Elgin, under the auspices of Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, Saturday, June 11th at 11:00 AM with Pastor Byron Green presiding. Interment will follow at Littig Cemetery.
