Robert “Bob” E. Murray, Sr. passed away February 14, 2021, in Bastrop. Bob celebrated his 98th birthday on February 9, 2021.
Bob had a long and eventful life. He was born in Iowa and his family moved to Colorado when he was a child. He grew up in Debeque, Colorado and on the Morrisania Mesa near what is now Parachute, Colorado and in the Grand Jct. area. He prospected during the winter in the Topaz Mountains in Utah when he was 12. He joined the Army Air Corps (now known as the Air Force) at the age of 17. He served as a Flight Engineer on B-29s flying out of Guam during WWII.
He met Myra Humes in Texas and they married in Hondo, Tx in 1943. They raised four children and lived in Uravan, Colorado. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1993. Bob worked for Union Carbide for over 35 years and he and Myra retired to Texas. He worked for Mr. Goodwrench and Chemical Lime in Texas before retiring permanently.
Bob was an avid and gifted gardener and also grew big, beautiful roses. He was always active and had a woodworking shop for a number of years. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Myra, in 1994; his grandson, Shawn Cunningham in 2016; and his only son, Robert (Robb) Jr. in 2019. He is survived by his three daughters, Carolyn Cunningham, Sherry Murray, and Janet Veenstra all living in Texas; his four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Bob was also a much-loved patient of an extensive care-giving family including many from Advanced Home Health, Resolutions Hospice and Right at Home. They commented that he always greeted them with a big smile and a twinkle in his eye. We will forever be appreciative for their love and support.
