Robert Dumbeck, Sr.

May 11, 1937 — December 16, 2017

Robert F. Dumbeck, Sr., 80, of Elgin passed away Saturday morning, December 16, 2017. Robert was born the son of Floyd and Mary Dumbeck, in Waseca, Minnesota on May 11, 1937. He was married to Kathryn Gordon on May 2, 1960, at England AFB Chapel in Alexandria, Louisiana. They remained happily married for over 57 years before his passing. Robert grew up on the family farm in Janesville, Minnesota and after high school, joined the U.S. Air Force. He served for 9 years in the Air Force and was stationed in Alaska and Hawaii. Robert was an inventor with over 20 patents to his name. He was extremely active in his community; serving as a volunteer firefighter in Elgin, on the Selective Service Commission, Elgin City Council, and as Mayor of Elgin. He worked for Tracor before starting his own business designing and installing data acquisition systems for municipal water supplies. He enjoyed his work and it was his passion. His only other hobby was inventing and making things work.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; his four sons and their wives, Robert, Jr. and Trish, Richard and Vicki, Reagan and Julie, and Raymond and Sheila; nine grandchildren, Tia, Megan, Connor, Allison, Derek, Justin, Lindsey, Dalton, and Breann; six great-grandchildren, Nick, Jack, Drew, Zach, Korie, and Harper; and his three sisters, Betty, Peggy, and Judy. He will be sincerely missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Oh, God who gave us birth, you are ever more ready to hear, than we are to pray. You know our needs before we ask, and our ignorance in asking. Give us now, you Grace, that as we shrink before the mystery of death, we may see the light of eternity. Speak to us once more of your solemn message of life and death. Help us to live as those who are prepared to die. And when our days here are accomplished, enable us to die as those who go forth to live, so that living or dying, our life may be in you, and that nothing in life or in death will be able to separate us from your great love, in Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.

The family graciously ask that Memorial Contributions be made in Bob’s Memory to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011.

The family will receive guests at the Elgin Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, December 19th. A Graveside Service will be conducted at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 20th with Reverend, Carl Roth officiating.
