Richard Almond Verstynen, 67, passed away at his home early on Sunday morning, August 2, 2020, a few days shy of his birthday, Sunday, August 9, 2020.
He moved to Austin in the 70’s to attend the University of Texas. Ric worked as an Auto Mechanic for several dealerships, particularly Volkswagen, all his life until he retired in 2015. He moved his family to McDade in 1992. He loved driving his tractor, fishing at the coast, singing and playing John Prine songs on his guitar, and being with his family. Those who remember him always say he told the best jokes. He battled cancer bravely and with a great attitude for more than three years. He will be missed very much. And give my love to Rose.
He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Charles and Esther Verstynen, of San Antonio, where Ric was born.
Ric is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patty Finney; his daughter, Rose Verstynen; his son, Steven Verstynen; his grandson, Alex Grimm and lots of cousins in Illinois.
