Richard Thomas Evans of Bryan, Texas left this earth on February 5, 2021 at 79 years of age. Richard was born on the 26th of November 1940 in Flat Lick, Kentucky to Walter Evans and Lucinda L. Carrol, or Cinda as she was known. Richard was the 2nd of 4 children born to this marriage. He grew up living in the same household with both sets of his grandparents, Lloyd and Eliza Black Carrol, and William M. and Dona Hale Evans in Flat Lick. His father and grandfathers all worked for the local coal mine in Flat Lick at some point in their lives, which is how the town got its name.
Despite being born there and spending his youth in Kentucky, Richard moved to Texas and has lived here for more than 40 years of his life, all of it in the Bryan, Hearne, and Rockdale areas. His last job was working for Steve’s Texaco in Rockdale for over 17 years until his retirement.
Richard was excited to tell stories about the place he grew up. He was always happy to engage folks in conversation. Richard’s warm smile kept everyone laughing with the stories he would tell.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Simmons Evans, two brothers, an unnamed brother who died at birth and Larry Evans of Kentucky, his parents and grandparents, and his daughters, Vickie Evans and Dianna Evans Gray from Kentucky, and two step-children, Gerald and Melburn Worrell.
He is survived by his son, Richard Thomas Evans, Jr. and wife Dawn of Gray, Kentucky; daughter, Barbara A. Evans Gray and husband Earl of Flat Lick, Kentucky; brother, Peter Evans of Kentucky; and stepdaughters, Diana Moon and husband Bill of Beaukiss, Texas; Irene Nester and husband Ronnie of Columbus, Indiana; and Vinita Lovings, and husband Mitch of Bryan, Texas; stepson, Daryl Worrell and wife Vicky of Kodak, Tennessee; and many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, extended family and dear friends.
