Raymond Townsend

Raymond Townsend, known as ‘D-Buddy’ a beloved husband and father, was summoned home February 19, 2022, in Elgin, Texas.

Raymond was born in the small community of Bartlett, Texas on March 20, 1941, to Ernest Townsend and Carrie Thompson. There were two other boys from Carrie’s previous marriage. Raymond was the second son born of this union. The family grew to consist of eight boys and three girls.

Raymond attended Booker T. Washington School in Elgin where he was active in football. After graduation, he worked many different jobs, including Chrysler Chevrolet Dealership in Austin, Texas for 22 years and Elgin Independent School District for 14 years in the janitorial department.

Raymond was united in Holy Matrimony to Willie Mae Givens on December 14, 1973, to this union two children were born.

After retirement, Raymond loved to sit outside in the sun and talk with friends. He entertained everyone that passed with a wave or finger point, as to say slow down.  He had a host of friends that would often stop for a talk.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest, and Carrie Townsend; four brothers: Otis Roberts, Artis Roberts, Albert Townsend, and Jessie Lee Townsend; and one sister, Lula Faye Parker.

Raymond’s legacy will live in the heart of his wife of 48 years, Willie Mae Townsend, two children: Sholanda Townsend, and Chyna Christensen; three brothers: Ernest Townsend, Jr, James Townsend, and Eddie Lee Townsend, two sisters: Delorse Boyd (Elmer), and Faye Dean Townsend, a host of nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and other relatives and friends.

The family will receive guests at the Elgin Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 1st from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM.  A Home Going Celebration will be held at 11:00 AM with Pastor Nami Craig presiding.  Interement will follow at Elgin Latin Cemetery.
