In the early morning of Tuesday, April 16, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family, Ramona Flores Rangel peacefully passed away at her home in Elgin. Ramona was born on September 2, 1925, to Filomeno and Macedonia Flores, and remained a cherished resident of Elgin throughout her entire life. In August of 1945, she entered into the joys of marriage with her beloved Cleofas Rangel.
A woman of many talents and immense warmth, Ramona dedicated herself to creating a loving home as a devoted housewife. Though a petite lady, she worked wasn’t shy of hard work; in her younger years, she endured the arduous task of picking cotton in the hot summer fields. However, it was in her kitchen where her true skills shined; she was a fabulous cook and each meal was complimented with her famous for her sweet tea. The memories created around her Sunday meals remain treasured by her grandchildren who fondly recall the love woven into each dish. She graciously prepared fresh homemade tortillas for any visitor who crossed her threshold. A tough and strong-willed individual, Ramona possessed a servant's heart, which will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her faith was unwavering, standing as a testament to her devout Catholic beliefs and unwavering spirituality.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Macedonia and Filomeno Flores; husband Cleofas M. Rangel; brother Jessie Flores; and sisters Teresa Flores, Josefa Bega, and Guadalupe Pena.
Ramona leaves behind a legacy of love and strength to her sons Robert F. Rangel and wife Alicia, Ben F. Rangel and wife Paula, Roy F. Rangel and wife Aida, and Michael F. Rangel and wife Toni; along with eight grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. May she rest in eternal peace knowing that she was deeply loved and will be forever remembered with affection and respect by all whose lives she touched.
