Myrtle was born on August 26, 1917 in Thrall, Texas to J. Walter and Alma Johnson, a 1st generation SwedishAmerican farming family. She grew up amid the farms and towns of central Texas and worked for the State of Texas during WWII. In 1948 she moved west and married Wayland Carlson, another transplanted Swedish Texan.The family made San Diego their home, and Myrtle became active in community and church activities as Wayland pursued his career in radar and electronics for the US Navy. Widowed in 1998, she moved to Wesley Palms in January 2001 and made many new friends during her 13 years here. She passed away on June 8th after a brief illness and is survived by son Charles Edith Carlson, daughter Charlotte George Peck, 5 grandchildren, and 1 greatgranddaughter. A Memorial Service will be held, Saturday, July 19th, 2014, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Lund Cemetery.
