On Thursday, October 29, 1942, in the city of Taylor, Texas, Melton Roberson and Mattie Mae Colvin-Roberson were blessed with a bouncing baby boy, Melton Roberson, Jr. Milton grew up and attended the public schools in Elgin, Texas. In high school, Milton displayed a passion for sports and played quarterback, but remembered for being a wide receiver for the Elgin Eagles. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High in 1960. He then joined the United States Army, where he moved quickly through the ranks and became a Sergeant within his first year and completed two tours of duty in Vietnam. Milton served his country proudly and received an Honorable discharge in September, 1972. Milton was united in Holy Matrimony to Zola Satterfield in 1968, and this union was blessed with a house full of girls. They settled in Austin, Texas and became good upright citizens.Milton accepted Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age and baptized. His foundation was formed at Pleasant Bethany Baptist Church. He grew up to be a God fearing man and worshiped at Loyalty Missionary Baptist Church in Austin. Milton read his bible on a daily basis and his favorite scripture was Psalms 23:1-6.Milton led a fulfilling and active life for this legacy he established is endless. After serving his country, Melton returned home and began a twenty-five year career as Transportation Engineer for the City of Austin. Being the self-made man he was, Milton owned and operated The Right Time Caf" located in downtown Elgin. He prided himself on providing a variety of entertainment for the public as well as his family. He loved to hunt and fish, as well as teaching others the craft. From his trade in the military he enjoyed cooking and grilling, often referred to by the family as "The Barbecue King." Milton favorite time was with his family and friends. He was known to be very nurturing and giving. After seeing his family grow to four generations, on April 14, 2016, Milton heard the voice of Jesus and left his earthly tabernacle. He is preceded in death by his father, Melton Roberson Sr., mother, Mattie Mae Milligan, and two brothers, Todd Milligan and Willie Mack Milligan.Milton"s legacy will be cherished by his devoted wife of forty-eight years, Zola Roberson, his children, Doris and her husband Allen Davenport, Diane Satterfield, Tina Roberson, and Rachel and her husband Russell Carter. He also leaves behind ten beautiful grandchildren: Christopher, Sheniko, Ashley, Lakendra, Desiree, Jeramine, Quincy, Philip, and Russell, Jr.; six great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and a countless number of friends and other relatives, including "special siblings" Dorothy McCarther, Rosa Jones, Berthella Jackson and Milton "Train" Roberson.We lost the greatest man we ever knew, our HERO, IDOL, DADDY, and BEST FRIEND, for he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
