Martha Marek

December 18, 1919 — March 10, 2013

Martha Ann Marek, affectionately known as Pete, passed away Sunday evening, March 10, 2013. Pete was born in Hutto, Texas to Robert Lee Farris and Callie Howell Farris on December 18, 1919. After graduation, she married the love of her life, Julius Marek on November 25, 1939. Together they had one daughter, Dorotha Dottie. They spent close to 35 years living on the Elgin Standard Brick yard, before moving to the city of Elgin in the mid 1960s. Once settled in Elgin, she began a lifelong career as a bookkeeper working many years for the Western Auto, then the Mogonye Lumber Company, and ultimately working for the Mogonye Hardware Store until it closed. She had a passion for gardening and canning her vegetables, spending time with her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, playing dominoes with her friends several times a week and also with her family every Saturday evening after going out for supper. She was a lifetime and faithful member of the Elgin Church of Christ.She is preceded in death by both her parents her husband of over 63 years, Julius L. Marek three sisters one brother and soninlaw, Jerry Berg.She is survived by her daughter, Dottie Berg of Elgin, TX two grandchildren, Keith Trolinger and wife Courtney of Canadian, TX and Kim Wiley of Elgin, TX five greatgrandchildren, Jessica Thacker, Sandi Trolinger, Matthew Trolinger, Cooper Trolinger, and Olivia Trolinger three greatgreatgrandchildren, Kylan Wiley, Austin Thacker, and Lacey Thacker four stepgrandchildren and 10 stepgreatgreatgrandchildren one sisterinlaw, Lawrine Marek and numerous nieces and nephews.The family will received guests at the Elgin Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 12th. A funeral service will be conducted at Elgin Funeral Home at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 13th with John Poole and Tom Nuckels officiating. Interment will follow at Elgin Cemetery.
