Margaret "Maggie" Daphne Lambert, 91, of Elgin passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2016. She was born on January 21, 1924, and grew up in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England. During WWII, she was in the Royal Air Force"s Radar Unit, where she tracked German bombers. After the war, she immigrated to Canada, where she met her future husband Jerry Lambert. In 1959, they came to Texas and lived in Dallas and San Antonio before settling into the Elgin area in 1975. She worked at KLRU for over 20 years. In 1976, she founded the unique natural food grocery, Wheatsville Coop in Austin, Texas.She cared deeply about land conservation and was a central figure in the Central Texas Lignite Watch. She spoke fondly of her many visits to the Bamberger Preserve and of her deep friendship with the Bambergers for their commitment to the restoration of prairie lands. She was also an active member of the Audubon Society and the Sayersville Historical Association.She is survived by her sister, Sylvia Palmer and nephew, Jeremy Palmer both of Aylesbury, England and her many, many friends in Bastrop County. Special thanks to the personnel at Elgin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care and A*MED Hospice for their compassionate care during her last months of life. A private memorial service will be held when the spring flowers are in full bloom.
