Manuel John Salas passed away, unexpectedly, on Saturday, May 5, 2018. Manuel was born in Luling, to Manuel Salas and Lydia Cortinas Salas on September 1, 1964. He grew up in the Austin area and was a long-time resident of Elgin. Manuel was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Military, serving from 1981 until 1989, when he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant with E-5 rank. He was a hard worker and dedicated himself to his profession as a truck driver, where he was employed with Sun Coast Resources for over 15 years as a Mainstream Fuel Delivery Driver. He was a leader among his peers, serving on emergency fueling teams during hurricane recovery efforts. After spending an entire 6 months away from his home and his family, on location last year in the devastated areas of Corpus Christi, Rockport, Florida and the US Virgin Islands, Manuel returned home in January 2018, with a new lease on life. Vowing to spend more time closer to his family; he really cherished the time that was spent with his father, daughters, and his brother
Manuel was preceded in death by his mother, Lydia Cortinas Salas. He is survived by his newly-wed wife, Roseann Salas; his three daughters, Lauren and husband Rene Calderon, Rachel Salas, and Victoria Salas; two grandchildren, Troy John “TJ” and Nova; his father and step-mother, Manuel and Gloria Salas; and his brother, David Salas and wife Carmen. He also leaves behind many dear friends, long-time coworkers and extended family members that also share in mourning the huge loss of such a great human spirit. He will forever be remembered as an extremely generous, funny and kind hearted soul.
