“A light from our household has dimmed.
A voice we loved has been stilled.
A place is vacant in our hearts that can never be filled.”
Sister Lerene Ola Davis, at the age of eighty-eight, went to be with her Heavenly Father, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday evening, January 22, 2025.
Lerene was born to Maggie and Lonnie Jack Ollie on February 2, 1936, in Taylor, Texas. She was the youngest of five children.
Lerene was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend but most of all, she was a child of God.
Lerene grew up in a strong Christian home and accepted Christ at an early age, being baptized by Reverend E.J. Johnson at the Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. Lerene was a faithful and active member, serving on the usher board. She attended church until her health began to fail.
Lerene met Harry T. Davis, and the two were united in Holy Matrimony on October 30, 1954. The Lord blessed this union with five wonderful children: Harry, Lonnie, Irene, Barbara, and Sarah. Lerene loved and provided for her family.
Lerene was employed with Travis State School for fifteen years.
Lerene loved sports and was the biggest Dallas Cowboys and UT Fan. She enjoyed cooking for her family and sitting on her front porch, greeting everyone who walked by. Lerene’s ‘me time’ was crossword puzzles and reading the newspaper.
Awaiting Lerene's arrival in Glory are her parents, two sisters, Sarah Perkins and Addie Madison, two brothers, Chester Ollie and Jimmy Wade, and her daughter, Irene Davis.
Lerene’s beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her four children, Harry Davis (Evelyn), Lonnie Davis (Bobbie), Barbara Alexander, and Sarah Graves; twelve grandchildren, Jermika Comeger, Charles Comeger (aka; Harry Jr), Michelle Hendricks, Carlee Hendricks, Lonnie Davis Jr. (Dominique), Derrick Davis (Leslie) Shameika McDade (Keith) O’Tasha Williams, Aresha Davis, Sierra McGee (Shawn) Keizland Davis and Omari Williams; eleven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives covering five generations; her extended family and dear friends including the Mount Moriah Church family.

A Home-Going Celebration will be held at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church of Elgin on Saturday, February 1st at 11:00 AM, with Reverend Steven Ward and Reverend Byron Green presiding.
