Leona Turnipseed Daughtry, 96, of Elgin passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014. She was born, November 5, 1917, one of eleven children, to Viola Mobley and Alvin Turnipseed. She married Rufus Daughtry on October 5, 1936, in Belton, Texas. They had one son, Kenneth Ken Wayne, on December 20, 1940. They moved from ElginButler Brick to Elgin during the 1960s. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Elgin, a 50 year member of the Eastern Star and a nurse at Fleming Memorial Hospital.Leona was preceded in death by her parents and husband, as well as brothers, Elmer, Howard, Harold and Philip Lee Buddy Turnipseed and sisters, Frances Jackson, Winnie Barnett and Rhoda Lois Turnipseed. She is survived by her son and wife, Ken and Beverly Daughtry of Elgin grandson and wife, Damon and Teri Daughtry of McDade granddaughters, Shannon Lollar of Lakeway Kim Lerche and husband, Ray, of Smithville and Tammy Martin and husband, Scott, of Elgin as well as two sisters, Mary Sherman of Georgetown and Dorothy Edwards of Elgin and one brother and wife, Pete and Maxine Turnipseed of McDade numerous greatgrandchildren, one greatgreatgranddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.Graveside services were held Saturday, October 4, 2014, in Elgin Cemetery with Brother Geary McManus officiating.
