Lazrus Williams Sr

March 31, 1927 — October 3, 2015

Proud parents Johnny and Pinkie Williams gave birth to Lazrus "Red" Williams on March 31, 1927 in Moab, TX in Lee County. Lazrus gave his life to Christ at a very early age as a member of Lakeview Baptist Church. He later joined Winn"s Memorial Baptist Church where he was an active member on the usher board. He re-united with Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and remained a faithful member and a committed and dedicated Christian until his death. Lazrus married the love of his life, Birdell McGee, October 26, 1962 and to this union 6 children were born; 5 girls and 1 boy.Lazrus was a phenomenal man, a selfless giver, heart of the family, and loved by all that knew him. He had a strong soul and was known to most as Red. Red was full of wisdom and was readily available to offer his advice whether you needed it or not. His doors were always open to anyone who needed a helping hand. Red was employed with Acme Brick Company, formally known as Butler Brick Company, retiring after over 50 years of service. Raising hogs, chickens, rabbits, racing greyhounds and working in his yard and garden were his favorite past-times. Red was just like a dad to everyone and will truly be missed. On Saturday, October 3, 2015 our Lord called Red home. Preceding him in death are his parents, Johnny and Pinkie Williams, two brothers, Matthew "Buster" and Joseph Williams, 3 sisters, Veora Williams, Elizabeth Williams- Thompson and Elnora Haynes, one daughter, Mary Louise Williams and one grandson, Treyvond Denzel Walker. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of over 50 years, Birdell Williams, 5 children; Shirley Ann Williams, Elizies Williams Jr. (Joanne), Otha Mathis (Terry), Jackie Williams (Lonnie), Olivia "Tammy" Williams (Taylor), one daughter previous, Birda Mae "Doll" Smith, two brothers, J.C. Williams Sr. (Juanita) and R.D. Williams Sr. (Thelma). His legacy also includes 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors, and a special family friend, Alma Penson. The family will receive guests at the Elgin Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, October 9th. A Home-Going Celebration will be conducted at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 10th with the Reverends, Byron Green and James Fowler officiating.
