Laverne Piel

Laverne Lee Piel (Tick), age 84 died on June 11, 2023, with his daughter by his side at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas from complications of a massive stroke.

Tick was born on October 8, 1938 at their home in Mertens, Texas. Tick was given the nickname when he was a little boy, laying in the bed between his parents and moving from side to side between the two. He was a roofer all his life, a total of 70 years. He started at the age of 14 and then started his own business and was just on a roof 3 weeks prior to having the stroke.

Tick loved playing pool and not many could win when playing against him. He had all kinds of animals and loved them all. He was a simple man and had simple values. Some of the best years of his life were growing up on the family farm and playing with his brothers.

Tick was proceeded in death by his parents, Selma Huber, and Julius Piel; brothers, Lonnie Piel and Joe Dean Piel; and sister, Darnell Tutor.

Tick is survived by his 3 children, Missy McCall, Randy Piel and Chad Piel all of Troy, Texas; 5 grandchildren, Lexi Shilling and husband Brandt of China Spring, Texas, Dakota McCall of Troy, Texas, Tyler Piel and wife Jordan of Troy, Texas and Holden and Haiden Piel also of Troy, Texas; and 4 great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023, at Sunset Ranch, 21837 TX 317, Moody, Texas 76557 from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM.  Inurnment will be private.  He will be laid to rest at a later date.
