Kenneth Ray Hughes, 66, affectionately known by many friends as WideTrack, passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 26, 2013, at his home in Elgin, Texas. He was born in Bastrop on June 26, 1946 to James L. and Ruby L. Hughes. Kenneth was a very talented man who loved hunting and fishing. He will always be regarded as one of the most skilled knife makers and leather workers of Bastrop County. He learned to play the guitar and sing as a teenager and was a member of several different bands. He could play just about any musical instrument he put his mind to and continued his passion for music for many years while picking and singing with friends. During his life, he became skilled at many different types of jobs he was a talented carpenter, a truck driver, wielder, and drove the school bus in Elgin for many years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Hughes two sons, James Willis and Shannon Leon Hughes and only daughter, Sandra Kay Hughes Fragosa. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Lisa one son, Brian Ray Hughes of Austin his father, James L. Hughes sister, Bonnie and husband Doni Sims, of Elgin motherinlaw, Leslie husband Sandy Croft, fatherinlaw, Edmund Siegmund and wife Pat grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and his lifelong friend, Randy Snowden.The family wishes to give their sincere and special thanks to the many nurses and doctors from Lighthouse Hospice and his special friend and aide David Garcia.Memorial contributions can be made to the Elgin Food Pantry or a charity of your choice.A memorial Service will be conducted at Elgin Funeral Home at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 2nd with Elvin Hoover officiating. Inurnment will be private.
