A Man of Three Wars, Three Wives, and Three Lives
Ken was born to Noah Albert Green and Dovie Ione Campbell Green, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma on October 25, 1926 and spent his childhood living near Oklahoma City and Houston.
Ken was a World War II, Korea, and Vietnam Veteran, where he was a signalman in the Navy and an OSI Agent in the Air Force. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 during World War II. After the War, he attended Abilene Christian College. While Ken was working as a Police Officer for Houston P.D., he was called to duty during the Korean War and joined the Air Force, where he retired after 21 years of service. Once he returned to civilian life, Ken began a 20 year career with the Federal Justice Department, Bastrop.
Ken’s favorite things were golfing, camping, traveling, spending time with family and eating Snickers candy bars and Supreme pizza. He belonged to Bastrop Senior Golf Association and enjoyed playing courses around the area.
He is preceded in death by both his parents; his six brothers; his daughter, Gwendolyn; and son, Harold.
Ken is survived by his wife of 29 years, Linda; daughters, Janice and husband Dennis Brown of San Miguel, CA, Shelley Buchman of Elgin, Robyn and husband Travis Metcalf of Elgin; sons, Dale Green of Palestine, TX, and Bradley Smith and wife Tonya of Pflugerville; his brother, Ray Green and wife Leatrice; his sister, Elaine and husband Ron LaSala; five grandsons; nine great-grandsons; six granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.
He gave the best hugs, and we will always miss the many jokes, which had to be numbered along with an equal number of limericks. Ken was a fighter and lived his life to the fullest. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him. Memorial contributions can be made in Ken’s Memory to the Relay For Life of Elgin, MDS Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
The family sends their special thanks to Dr Helmer of Texas Oncology & his staff as well as all the medical staff on the 7th floor of Seton Hospital Main for taking such amazing care of Ken over the past two years.
