Julia Harmon

February 21, 1918 — April 20, 2016

Julia Arbella Parks Harmon, 98, of Elgin, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, April 20, 2016. Julia was born in Elgin, Texas on February 21, 1918, to Joseph C. Parks and Nannie G. Scales Parks. She grew up at the Elgin Brick Yard and attended Ramsey School and Elgin High School. After graduation, she married her sweetheart, Alson Roscoe Harmon on December 12, 1937. Julia began working at the Brick Yard Commissary. When Roscoe and Julia left the Brick Yard, they both began working at the State School in Austin, where she was a House Attendant and Clerk for the Donation Store. In the early 1980"s, they both retired and maintained their home in Elgin. In 2005, she moved to San Marcos to be closer to her only son, Don and his wife, Margie.Julia was preceded in death by both her parents; her husband of 56 years, Roscoe; her four sisters, Johnnie Parks, Jessie Stacks, Evadine Scott, and Irene Horton.Julia is survived by her only son, Donald "Don" Harmon and wife, Margie of San Marcos, TX; two grandchildren, Mark Harmon and wife, Valerie of Weimar, TX and Kim Harmon of Fredericksburg, VA; two great-grandchildren, Clay and Caitlyn Harmon of Weimar; and numerous nieces and nephews.The family will receive the guests at the Elgin Funeral Home from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM Sunday, April 24th. A Funeral Service will be conducted at Elgin Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Monday, April 25th with Reverend Gregory Ross officiating.
