Juanita Scott

February 17, 1925 — August 9, 2014

Juanita Marie Snowden Scott was born on February 17, 1925 to Otreo and Mary Doreen Bragg Snowden in a private home on Wilbarger Creek in Bastrop County. She came to know the Lord about the age of 12 and was baptized in Sandy Creek at the Brick Yard. She attended Ramsey school and Elgin public schools. She graduated from Elgin High School in 1941 and worked at Camp Swift during World War II in the laundry and the infirmary. Juanita married Abner Cleveland Scott on July 9, 1945 and settled on East Second Street in Elgin in 1948. She joined the First Baptist Church of Elgin on March 30, 1952 and was still a faithful member at her passing. They moved to VFW Road in 1963 and made their home there for the rest of their lives together. They were married for over 65 years when Abner passed away in 2011. Juanita broke her hip in 2010 and spent the rest of her years living with her daughter in Elgin. She passed away Saturday morning, August 9, 2014. She worked as a telephone operator, as a secretary at Gruetzner Chevrolet and Meyers Sausage Company, and for many years as a pharmacy manager at Ramsey Pharmacy, but her most important career was homemaker. Abner and Juanita had two children, William Henry Billy Scott 1946 and Sandra Kay Scott Freitag 1951. Together they worked hard and played hard. The family did everything together as a unit. They always had a big garden and Juanita canned everything they grew, never wasting anything. One of her greatest joys was giving away the jellies, canned and frozen vegetables, shelled pecans, and eggs that they raised. Juanita was a very hard worker, a strong and independent woman, and a selfless, caring mother and wife. Being raised during the depression made a lifelong impression on her, and caused her to appreciate everything that she had as a member of the Greatest Generation. She is survived by her son William H.
