Joseph O'Connor

Joseph OConnor of Elgin, TX passed away January 6, 2015 at the age of 92. He was born in Elgin, May 12, 1922, to the late Edgar and Iva OConnor. Joseph served three years in the army Air Corps during WWII as an aircraft mechanic. On returning to Elgin, he worked with his Father in the retail furniture business, taking over the business in 1953 and retiring in 1984. In 1953, Joseph married Marion Lynn Taylor. They enjoyed over 45 years together until her death in 1999. Joseph was a faithful member of the Elgin Church of Christ and was very actively involved in his younger years, serving as treasurer and a Bible class teacher. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles OConnor. He is survived by a brother, Donald OConnor and wife Wanda and a number of nieces and nephews, Patty Cook Tommy, Larry OConnor, Jo Ann Tyler Rick, Carol Neil Ted, David OConnor Marian, Tommy OConnor Elsa, and Mark OConnor Betony and by 13 great nieces and nephews. Our thanks and gratitude to some special peopleLinda Garcia, his primary care giver, and to others who helped, including Roy and Anna Reyna, Mike and Melba Speckles and Paula and Ernestine Reyna. We also greatly appreciate the help of Nora Vasquez, Gela Martinez and Sofia Avalos, during Josephs last illness. We also express our thanks to Dr. Ace Alsup, who was his primary physician for over 30 years and Dr. Thomas McMinn, his Physicians assistant, Carisssa Anwar, and Dr. Gina DeSanto of Austin Heart for their care. In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elgin church of Christ or to the charity of your choice. The family will receive guests at Elgin Church of Christ, Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 1:00 PM until 2:30 PM. A funeral service will follow at 2:30 PM with John Poole officiating. Interment will follow at Elgin Cemetery.
