Mr. Johnnie L. Williams, 81, long life time resident of Bastrop County, went to spend his eternal life with our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ on Tuesday, January 8, 2013. Johnnie, affectingly known as Big John was born on February 9,1931 to Wade Williams and Elnora Collins in the Big Sandy Community of Bastrop County, Texas. He attended public school for a short period in the Elgin School District, leaving early to help his Mother care of the family. Despite not receiving his diplomas, he managed to be a successful man and an upright citizen of his community. John never retired from any particular career, rather he enjoyed learning and mastering many different trades and worked every day until his death. He worked for the Elgin Brickyard, as a carpenter, a mechanic, and ultimately following his passion, working as a farmer and raising goats. He also ownedoperated the Piney Creek Lounge for thirty years working long hours to ensure all would have a good time. He was presented the distinguished business achievement award and was honored by the Piney Community with naming October 15th, Johnny L. Williams Day.On August 4, 1982, John was united in Holy Matrimony to Gertie Mae Hill. Johnny loved his family and this union provided unending love together they would raise twelve children as well as five others, accepting two more, and assisted in the care of their nieces and nephews plus a host of grandchildren.John, a God fearing man He touched many lives, young and old, possessing a strong love for his family, friends, and the community. He worked continually to provide a better quality of life for his family. John was preceded in death by both his parents his three sisters, La Verne Nunn, Annie Lee McNeil, and Irene Collins and one son, Bobby Blaylock.John leaves in Gods hands to share his legacy his devoted wife of thirtyYears, Gertie Mae Williams children and childreninlaws, Willie Mae and husband Raymond Townsend, Johnnie Blaylock, Roger and wife Charlene Blaylock, Vanessa and husband Alfred Binger, Christine Colter, Lora Ann and husband Larry Burton, Betty and husband Leon Benford, Glen and wife Lisa Colter, Ronnie and wife Stacey Moore, Victor Moore, Delia and husband Aaron Roberson, Violette and husband Jerome Hill, Christopher and wife Aundi Hill, Charlene and husband Melvin Canada, Clara Colter, Donnie and wife Margie Colter, Chamarqus Winton, and Tia Benson his siblings, J. D. Williams, Eloise Foster, Orangerine Ward, Pearly Reeves, Alvin Harden and M. C. Collins he also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended relatives and friends.I tried to live in this old world and I did the I could. The Angels of Death havecome to guide me and I know God will open wide your understanding as to why thesethings must be. Dying is only a part of living, so please dont mourn for me.The family will receive guests at the Elgin Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, January 11th. A Home Going Celebration will be conducted at Providence District Tabernacle, Cedar Creek, Texas at 9:30 AM Saturday, January 12th with the Reverend, L.R. White officiating. Interment will follow at Magdalene Cemetery, Sayers, Texas.
