Juan “Johnny” Collazo, 82, of Jasper, formerly of Elgin, passed away, Sunday, June 5, 2022. Johnny was a Father, Husband, Brother, Grandpa, and PePa, and Uncle, who had a heart overflowing with love for his precious family and friends.
Johnny grew up in Bastrop County and attended schools in Elgin. He spent his career working as a forklift operator for L.P. Sawmill and Meigs Lumber Company. After he retired, he began growing and selling vegetables from his garden., where he met and shared stories with many people; he never met a stranger. Johnny loved to cook, especially BBQ for his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Morales Guzman; both his parents, Graviela Villerreal Collazo and Cruz Collazo, Sr.; his brother, Daniel Collazo; and his sister, Victoria Salinas.
He is survived by his four daughters, Delia Collazo of Dallas, Joann Davila of Denver, Colorado, Sylvia Collazo Oliva and husband Mario of Plano, and Irma Morales Dowden and husband Carl of Jasper; his brothers, Cruz Collazo, Jr., of Bastrop, Adam Collazo of Bastrop, Eusebio Collazo of Livingston, and Augustin Collazo of Austin; his sisters, Eva Maldonado of Elgin, Emma Villanueva of Slaton, and Janie San Juanita Castillo of Austin; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family and dear friends. He was loved by all who knew him.
He will lie in state at Elgin Funeral Home, Wednesday, June 8th from 12:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Funeral Services will be conducted at Elgin Funeral Home, Thursday, June 9th at 11:00 AM with Reverend Adam Gusman presiding. Interment will follow at Elgin Latin Cemetery.
