Johnnie Watson Hendrix, affectionately known as Big John, 79, of Elgin passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, March 30, 2013. Johnnie was born in Austin, Texas on June 21, 1933 to Lewis James Hendrix and Ollie May Watson Hendrix. During his service with the United States Air force, he met and married the love of his life, Mary Laurel Gray, on October 27, 1957. During those short 55 years, they raised three beautiful children, Holly, John, and Barney. Johns occupation was a roofer however in his spare time, you would always find John preparing for his favorite time of year deer hunting season He is preceded in death by his both parents his two sisters, Mary Worley and Irene Quanse and his brother, Wayne Hendrix.He is survived by, his wife of 55 years, Mary Laurel Hendrix his only daughter, Holly Hendrix two sons, John Hendrix and wife Debbie and Barney Hendrix and wife Deborah his only granddaughter, Erica Hendrix Hebert and first greatgrandson, Kevin HunterHebert and brother, Lloyd Hendrix. Big John will be missed and remembered forever by all that knew him.The family will receive guest from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Elgin Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 2nd. Funeral Services will be conducted at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Rockne at 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 3rd with Deacon Alvin officiating. Interment will follow, where he will be laid to rest with Full Military Honors at the Hendrix Family Cemetery in Red Rock with Barney Hendrix, Little John, Vincent Ferrer, Stevie Brougher, Russell Langham, and Jesus Chuy serving as Pall Bearers, as well as Lloyd Hendrix, and Kevin Hebert serving as Honorary Pall Bearers.
