John Christopher Tijerina

September 30, 1979 — December 24, 2024

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved John Christopher Tijerina on December 24, 2024.

Born in Austin, Texas, on September 30, 1979, to John B. Tijerina and Anita Lopez Tijerina, John embodied kindness, generosity, and an unwavering devotion to his family. He was a husband, father, son, brother, and friend whose love knew no bounds.

John married his soulmate, Theresa Tijerina, in 1998, but their love story began 31 years ago. He often referred to her as “his babydoll” and cherished her beyond measure. Together, they built a beautiful family of four kids and eleven grandkids. They shared a life filled with an abundance of love and laughter.

John became a father at the young age of 14, a role he embraced with courage, commitment, and boundless love. His family was the pinnacle of his life. A devout father and proud grandfather, he spent every moment he could with his loved ones. Whether watching his cherished Dallas Cowboys, sharing his unmatched sense of humor, or making others laugh with his outlandish jokes and inappropriate humor during serious moments, John’s presence lit up every room.

Professionally, John worked in transportation, providing for his family with determination and integrity. Outside of work, his happiest times were those spent surrounded by his grandchildren, creating memories and sharing laughter.

John is survived by his devoted wife, Theresa Tijerina; and his cherished children: Roseanna Zapata (Eric Zapata), John Tijerina, Alazae Mondragon (Jose Mondragon), and Rose Tijerina. He leaves behind his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy: Ilyana, Ivan, Isaac, Isaiah, Isalia, Nyla, Jose, Ariel, Mariana, and Alessandra; and his loving parents, John B. and Anita Tijerina;

He is also survived by his siblings: Cathy McDowell (James McDowell), Laura Tijerina (Jesse Garza), Diana Fernandez (Ervey Fernandez), Joanna Gomez (Alex Gomez), Steve Meza, Noe Tijerina (Irene Tijerina), and Irma Flores, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family.

John was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tony “Sone” Tijerina and Mary Cortez Tijerina, Miguel Lopez and Catalina Reyna Hernandez, and his mother-in-law, Rosie Ontiveros.

Pallbearers honoring John’s memory include his son, John Christopher Tijerina Jr.; son-in-law, Jose Mondragon; cousin, Miguel Lopez; nephews, Ervey Fernandez III and Jacob Tijerina; and brothers-in-law, Ervey Fernandez, Alex Gomez, Jesse Garza, Guadalupe Ontiveros Jr., and James McDowell.

John Christopher Tijerina was a man of unwavering love, a generous heart, and a spirit that could brighten any day. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched. Brother, you will be loved and missed all the days of our lives.
