John Strong

John Arthur Strong , 79, of McDade passed away Tuesday evening, August 15, 2017. He was born the only child to Mabel and C.A. “Bod” Strong on January 23, 1938 in McDade, Texas. John graduated from Elgin High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Army. After the Army, he went to work for Elgin Butler Brickyard and retired after serving for over 50 years with the brickyard. John frequently liked to point out the different styles of bricks around the area. John and Margaret were foster parents for over 20 years, fostering more than 25 kids. John was a member of the McDade Volunteer Fire Department. He ran the projector for the old EL-TEX Movie Theater in Elgin for many years. He and his wife, Margaret served as the 2008 Parade Marshalls for the McDade Watermelon Festival.

John loved fast cars, to tell stories of his “wild days,” and going to the casinos but most of all he loved being with his family and friends.

John is proceeded in death by his parents and his wife, Margaret. John is survived by his three children, Richard Strong and his wife Karen, Jacqueline and her husband Stephen Lindgren, and J.J. Strong and his wife Kim; grandchildren Ryan Strong and his wife Brandi, Clint Strong, Jacob Lindgren, Jaden and Justin Strong; great-grandson Cason Strong.
