John Moore

March 2, 1926 — February 26, 2016

John Harold Moore left this world to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, February 26, 2016 at the age of 89.John was born in Knobbs Community, Lee County to Edward M. and Willimena A. Moore on Tuesday, March 2, 1926. He graduated from Elgin High School and attended Business College. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the Army Air Corp. and trained as a tail gunner on a B24 Bomber.He married the love of his life, Marie Pearson on July 30, 1949. They had 62 wonderful years together before her passing in 2012. He always said, "I knew she was the one the moment I saw her sitting on the steps!"John was a charter member and Past Master of S.P. Waltrip Masonic Lodge. He was presented his 60 year pin in 2015. His deep faith in Jesus Christ sustained him as he suffered through many health issues. He faced each obstacle with prayer, courage and peace that can only be explained by his sincere commitment to Christ. He loved the Lord and was an active member at the McDade Church of Christ.John stayed busy working in his garden, which he enjoyed tremendously. He served in the McDade Watermelon Festival Association, McDade Historical Society and the McDade Cemetery Association.He is preceded in death by his wife, Marie in 2012 and his son, Ronald in 1996.John is survived by his daughter, Cathy Blaylock and her husband Clinton; four grandchildren, Shane Moynihan and wife Crystal, Ryan Moynihan and wife Maria, Haley Moynihan and fianc" Omar Pacheco and Amanda Moynihan; five great grandchildren, Alexis, John and Bella Pacheco and Carson and Mason Moynihan; numerous nieces, nephews and great friends.The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Elgin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and to the caregivers of Heart-to-Heart Hospice, for the incredible love and care given to him by all of the wonderful caregivers.The family will receive guests Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at the Elgin Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the Elgin Funeral Home at 12:00 PM with Pastor Ronnie Gregory officiating. Interment will follow at the McDade Cemetery.
