John Leonard Burk III, 89 years old, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2023, at Cedar Park Medical Center in Cedar Park, Texas, outside of Austin. He was born on August 3, 1933, in Austin, Texas, to John L. Burk Jr. and Ruth Walker Burk. John was happily married to Violet Schoen for over 40 years.
John grew up in Austin, TX. He graduated from Austin High School in Austin in 1951. After high school he went on to attend college at the University of Texas and St. Edwards University. He joined the United States Army in 1955, where he played baseball and boxed for the military. In 1977, he founded the Burk Paper Company and served customers in the Austin and San Antonio-area until the pandemic caused it to close in 2020.
When John became a father to his two sons, he loved teaching and watching them play baseball and football. It was rare that he missed either of his sons’ games.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John Leonard Burk, II. and Ruth Walker Burk.
John is survived by his spouse Violet Burk; his sons, John Leonard Burk, IV. and Guy Royal Burk and step-daughter, Karen Schoen; his sister, Mary Frances Keller and brother-in-law Bill Keller; his grandchildren, Amanda Burk, Jessica Burk, Guy Burk Jr., Miguel Monet, Jonelle Burk, and Annalia Garcia-Burk; his great-granddaughter, Reni Rose Arres; his nephew, Jason Keller; and numerous extended family and dear friends.
Family and Friends will gather to Celebrate John’s Life at Elgin Cemetery, Thursday, April 13th at 10:00 AM.
