The Lord called JD “Slim” Williams home on September 7, 2021, at the age of 87. He was born to the late Wade “Hoss” Williams and the late Elnora Collins on July 26, 1934.
He attended school at Elgin School District for a short period leaving to help his mother with his siblings. He went to work for Jack Anderson Ford for 17 years and later to become a successful entrepreneur with the businesses of the DJ Lounge and Slim’s Garage doing mechanical work on many of the locals’ vehicles in the community, all the while indulging in drag racing at Little River Academy dragstrip in his spare time where he became famous with his racing style. Drag Racing was a passion he has had for many years and made sure his family and friends were there to witness his greatness.
JD was a God-fearing man and touch many lives young and old over his course of life. He was very prominent in the community building relationships with other business owners becoming a respected person in the community. In his retirement days he enjoyed sitting under his favorite tree on Houston Street before dark talking and laughing with friends.
JD was united in Holy Matrimony to Evie Francis Williams in the early 1950’s and to that union nine children were born. In 1970 he entered in his second Holy Matrimony with Doris Jean Williams and to that union two children were born.
As the gates open for Slim, he is now reunited with his parents, one son Ray Charles Williams, one brother Johnnie L. Williams, three sisters: Laverne “Bea” Nunn, Irene Collins, and Annie Lee McNeil, one aunt Earthlene Wilson.
He leaves to cherish his memory two brothers: Mac Collins and Alvin Hardin, three sisters: Eloise Foster (Ferrell), Orangere Ward and Pearlie Reeves. Ten children: Evelyn Thomas, Mae Pearl Williams, Larry Williams (LaDonna), Jeanette Clark (Michael), Lesia Jones (Tracy), Deddra (Debra) Williams, Muriel Williams (Teddy), Kenneth Williams (Meredith), Shirell Galloway and James Williams Jr. Three stepchildren: Darren Galloway, Michael Galloway, and Annette Galloway. Twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, two uncles Rudall and Mozell Hardin, other relatives, and the Drag Racing Community. Also a few special friends: Charles Henry Duvall, Clifford Milligan, Eunice Penson and Elaine Clay.
