James “Jim” Douglas Martin, 75, of Elgin, Texas, passed away Sunday Morning, January 17, 2021. Jim was born the youngest of four children, to John Wilder Martin and Lula Alyne Bragg Martin, in Elgin, Texas, on October 15, 1945. Jim grew up and attended schools in Elgin, graduating the Class of ‘64. After graduation, he worked various jobs before beginning a long career with the United States Postal Service. On July 4, 1969, he married the love of his life, Joyce Elaine Morrow. Together, they raised their two children in Elgin.
Jim loved to start his morning at Elgin Donuts. He was a longtime volunteer for Elgin Little League, serving as a coach and umpire. As he made his daily trips into town, he always found a friend and would love to engage in long conversations about anything under the sun – his friendly and warm personality will forever be missed around town. Jim loved his grandchildren and was extremely involved in all their sports and activities, never missing an event!
Jim is preceded in death by both his parents; his brother, William Eldridge “Buck” Martin; and his brother-in-law, Buddy Meyer. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 51 years, Elaine; his two children, Jason Martin and Jessica and husband Kelly Gibson; his six grandchildren; his sister, Betty Lynn Meyer; his two brothers, Gordon “Bubba” and Bill Martin and wife Pat; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Family and Friends will gather at Elgin Funeral Home for visitation, Wednesday, January 20th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be conducted at Elgin Funeral Home, Thursday, January 21st at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Youngs Prairie Cemetery.
