James Aubrey Huskisson, 98, of Elgin, Texas passed away Sunday afternoon, February 12, 2023. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday, June 21, 1924, to his parents, John James Huskisson, and Mary Liethie Wade Huskisson. James’ father died when he was 3 years old and after his mother remarried. The family moved to Tomassillon, Ohio, where his step-father, Earl Bennett, worked for Republic Steel for 42 years before retiring in 1967.
James, who was known by his friends as Aubrey, Attended Emerson Elementary School, Lorin Andrews Junior High School and received his High School Diplomas from Washington High School.
He served three years in the United States Army Infantry during World War II and saw combat action in the South Pacific for 26 months until the end of the war and was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge along with other awards and decorations. He then entered the United States Army Air Corps which later became the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
James retired from the Military in 1973, as a Chief-Master Sergeant. His many overseas assignments included New Guinfa, Marshall Islands, the Philippine Islands, Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, France, Germany, North Africa, England, and Vietnam. In 1948 he married Winnie Gladys Wells of Austin, Texas. She passed away in 2006.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John James Huskisson and Mary Liethie Huskisson; step-father, Earl Bennett; wife, Winnie Gladys Wells, and sister, Joyce Dennis.
He leaves to cherish his memory, Daughter, Lois Ann Blackmer of Spring, Texas; two sons, James Earl of Lannon, Wisconsin, and Larry Wayne of Elgin, Texas; sister, Earlene Caswell of Massillon, Ohio; brother, Daniel Bennett of Massillon, Ohio; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
A Graveside Service, with Military Honors, will be conducted at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, Friday, February 17th at 11:00 AM.
