HUGH “JACK” LOFTON, JR.
“A Time to be Born”
On August 1, 1949 in Elgin, Texas a bouncing baby boy was born to Hugh, Sr. and Bertha Duvall Lofton, who they named Hugh Lofton, Jr.
“A Time to Plant”
At an early age, “Jack” as we affectionately called him, professed his hope in Christ at an early age and united with Union Hill Baptist Missionary Baptist Church where he remained a member until God
called him home. He was baptized in the Colorado River (behind the church). Hugh attended Elgin Public Schools and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1967. After graduating from
High School, he married his High School Sweetheart, Bettye Bishop and was blessed with two daughters, Deborah Lynn and Angelia LaTrice. Hugh was also blessed with four other children as well
whom he loved dearly.
“A Time to Work and Play”
Hugh started his work history as a carpenter and held his first job as a carpenter helper and worked for Mr. Claude Marx. He later was employed for several years perfecting his carpentry skills under
the leadership of Mr. Wayne Reisor. Hugh later branched out on his own and started his own business naming it H.L.J. Construction. He continued to work for many years building homes for well
known builders such as Doyle Wilson. Hugh worked tirelessly building homes, apartment buildings, etc. until he was stricken with a stroke in 1997.
“A Time to Die”
On Wednesday night, October 12, 2016 Hugh answered the Lord's call, accepted his wings and went home to be with his Lord and Saviour where there is no more pain, no more suffering and no more heartache. Our Daddy is alright now and he is finally at peace.
Hugh was preceded in death by his mother and father, Hugh Sr. and Bertha Lofton. One brother, Booker T. Lofton; one daughter, Monique Matthews; one grandson, Kenneth Shaw, Jr.; one grand-daughter,
