Hayward Lee Patterson, 64, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, May 28, 2024, in Houston, Texas. Born on July 17, 1959, in Waco, Texas, Hayward dedicated over 50 years of his life to construction as a skilled laborer. Known fondly as Mr. P, he was highly respected by his colleagues for his knowledge and experience. Hayward also proudly served in the Army for 2 years.
Hayward's educational journey took him through Driscoll Elementary and Roy Miller High School in Corpus Christi, Texas. His love for learning extended beyond the classroom into various fields such as botany, economics, engineering, architecture, and cyber technology. He had a curious mind that led him to stay well-informed about world events.
In his leisure time, Hayward indulged in activities like fishing and reading, showcasing his profound intellect and diverse interests. One of his endearing traits was assigning unique nicknames to those around him, creating lasting memories for all who crossed his path.
Hayward is survived by his mother, Charlie Patterson Jenkins of Bastrop; his three daughters, Chasity Kinney of Houston, Bridgett Moore (Josh) of Ft. Worth, and Brittany Patterson of Waco; two sisters: Shelia Patterson of Palacios and Shawn Savoy (Vincent) of Waco; two brothers: Eddie Patterson of Bastrop and Billy Barrow of Waco; along with 18 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his father, Johnnie Patterson, and two brothers, Tommy Lewis and Charles Lewis.
Hayward will be remembered for the depth of knowledge he shared with others, the love he displayed for his family, and the kindness he extended to all. His presence will be dearly missed but forever cherished by those whose lives he touched.
He will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery of Killeen, Friday, August 9th at 2:00 PM.
