Guadalupe Tamez

Guadalupe Jonse Tamez, 87, passed away on Christmas day, 2012 at St. Davids Hospital of lung and heart complications. She was born the oldest of the girls in a family of 15, on December 13, 1925 in Elgin, Texas to Conrado and Manuela Jonse and was a lifelong resident of Elgin. She grew up during the depression and at a time when having a job meant everything a mindset she kept throughout her life. She worked in a wide variety of jobs, including farm labor, the Butler Brick Company, and retired from the Travis State School in Austin. After retirement, she worked part time caring for the elderly. She was a woman of strong faith and a lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elgin. Affectionately known as Lupe, she had many friends, her phone was always ringing, and there was seldom a day that someone did not stop by to see her. She was a very special person, who possessed a gift for having the ability to strike up conversations with complete strangers, many to the dismay of her children. She was a great cook and her home was the center for friends and family and the place where many fond memories of Sunday dinners at grandmas were made. We will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Adolfo Tamez, Sr.She is survived by her two daughters and two sons, Mary Lucille and husband Frank Gonzalez of Austin, Adolph Tamez, Jr. and wife Mary of Elgin, Olga and husband Rob Levin of Austin, and Fred Tamez and wife Kim of Austin many grand and greatgrand children four brothers, Fernando Jonse, Tom Jonse, John Jonse, and Rudy Jonse and three sisters, Sara Carmona, Fina Pineda, and Susan Renteria.The family will receive guests at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday, December 27th and will pray the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Celebration of Christian Burial Mass will be conducted at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Elgin at 10:00 AM Friday, December 28th with Father George officiating. Interment will follow at the Elgin Cemetery.
