Gladys Nelson

September 4, 1924 — February 2, 2017

Marie “Mimi” Bailey Nelson born September 4, 1924 in Bastrop, Texas was called home to her well-earned reward with her Lord on Thursday, February 2, 2017, surrounded by family and loved ones. She graduated from Elgin High School in 1942 and married her husband of 53 years on December 7, 1942. She lived in Elgin, San Antonio and Austin. She worked for the San Antonio Welcome Service helping new families that moved to the area with relocation issues and an ever-friendly smile. She will be long remembered for her never failing graciousness, her wonderful smile, her crystal blue eyes, her unflinching faith in Christ, her serving heart, her selflessness and the way that any new acquaintance knew they instantly had a new Mimi. Marie was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ and attended Central Church of Christ in Pflugerville at the time of her being called home. She will always be known as Mimi to so many who loved and cared for her.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Dewey and Gladys Bailey, her husband Louis B. Nelson, daughters; Sandra Kay Nelson, Pamela Ann Barnes and a son-in-law Joe R. Barnes. She is survived by her brother James D. Bailey, Grandchildren: Wm. Nelson Barnes (Kathy) of Belton, Texas, Shae Marie Quiroz (Adolfo) of Frisco, Texas, Kristen Ilene Garner (Paul) of La Vernia, Texas, 11 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. The world is a lesser place without her but a better place for her having been in it.
