Gladys Clemons, 69, of Bastrop, peacefully passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior, in her home with her daughters and sister by her side, Thursday, June 10, 2021. Gladys Marie Clemons was born, August 7, 1951, in Bastrop, Texas to Sylvester Wilson and Inez Wilson. She grew up in Bastrop, where she attended Bastrop Public Schools and graduated from Bastrop High with the Class of 1970.
She went on to work for Bastrop Independent School District as a teacher's aide for 10 years. She then worked 10 years as a New Account Representative at Bastrop's First National Bank. She ultimately retired in a vibrant career as Executive Assistant after 25 years of service with the City of Austin.
She was baptized at the young age of 12 at Bethlehem Baptist Church where she began her life of Christian servitude. She faithfully went on to continue her service at her family and home church, Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church as President of the Usher Board and as a Sunday School teacher to the early teens and young adults.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother, a caring sister and aunt, well adorned throughout her family, church family and the community of which she served. She was a loving spirit, kind and always treated others with respect and well respected and loved by others.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Inez Wilson; two brothers, Joel Wilson and Charles Wilson; her grandmother, Ellen Moore; her niece Rolanda Kaye Wilson, her nephew, Tyrone Douglas Wilson, Sr.; and her great-nephew, Draylen Mason.
Gladys leaves to cherish her memories her daughters, Alicia Blaylock of Bastrop and Anita Blaylock-Wyndham of Austin; grandsons, Amon Wyndham of Austin, Adin Wyndham of Austin, and Aran Wyndham of Austin; husband, Theodore Clemons of Austin; sisters, Ruth Wilson-Washington of Bastrop and Cecelia Wilson-Richardson of Dallas; brothers, DeWitt Wilson of Bastrop, James Hardin (Beverly) of Austin, and Ricky Wilson (Carol Ann) of Cedar Creek; nieces, Shamika Wilson of Austin, Latasha Wilson of Cedar Creek, Cynthia Hardin-Smith (Terry) of Austin, and Cheryl Hardin-Lewis (Marcus) of Houston; nephews, David Washington (Celeste) of Killeen, Eric Wilson (Crystal) of Cedar Creek, and William Hardin of Austin, great-nephew, Tyrone Douglas Wilson, Jr.; great-niece, SanTina Patridge; and a host of extended family and dear friends.
She will lie in state at Elgin Funeral Home on Thursday, June 17, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A Home-Going Celebration will be conducted at Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Friday, June 18, at 10:00 AM, with the Reverend, Charles King presiding. Interment will follow at Colorado Chapel Cemetery.
