Gerald Douglas Lackey, 74, of Pflugerville, Texas, passed away Saturday morning, April 2, 2022. Doug was born March 24, 1948, to Roy and Louise Lackey in San Angelo, and grew up on his parent’s ranch in Adamsville, Lampasas County. During Junior High, he moved to Austin, with his grandparents Oscar and Myrtle Wyatt Doug, and then went onto to attend Reagan High School, graduating with the Class of ’68. While in Austin during his teen years, he was active in the Boy Scouts and successfully earned his Eagle Scout. After graduating, he began working for the State of Texas, which ultimately became a 34-year long career. Doug soon met the love of his life, Gloria “Jean” Bryan at the Brentwood Church of Christ; the two married on January 6, 1973, and the couple had their son, Scott. Doug enjoyed camping, hiking, gardening, watching Baylor Football and Lady Bears Basketball. In his adult life, Doug became active again in Scouting, this time with his son Scott, even serving as the Troop's Assistant Scoutmaster.
Doug was preceded in death by both his parents and his sister, Sandra Spindle. He is survived by his wife, Jean; his son, Scott Lackey and wife Jill; his granddaughter Charlotte; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
