Georgia

January 30, 1947 — November 3, 2017

Georgia Lee Lofton , affectionately known as Peggy, was born in the little community of Elgin, Texas, Bastrop County, on January 30, 1947, to Hugh Lofton, Sr. and Bertha Mae Lofton.

At an early age, Peggy, professed her hope in Christ and was baptized by Reverend J D Cleveland in the Colorado River behind the Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church. She attended Elgin Public Schools and graduated from Booker T. Washington High.

Spreading her wings after graduating, Peggy moved to California in 1962. On August 13, 1969, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Charles E. Kelley. They were blessed with a gift from God on May 31, 1972, a son, whom they named Charles E. Kelley, Jr.; her only child. Peggy called him Chuckie.

Taking advantage of the land of opportunity, Georgia Lee went to school to live her dream to be a teacher. In 1995, she received a Bachelor of Science Degree from California State Dominguez College. She enjoyed teaching, often sharing stories about her students. Due to health issues her career was cut short.

The love of her life was her son and his family, she always spoke highly of him, for he would rock her world. Her love for them shouted with each word as she talked about them.

Peggy’s favorite past time was going to the casino and the adult game room with her grade school friends when she visited Texas.

On Friday, November 3, 2017, Georgia Lee received her wings and went home to be with her Lord and Savior. Waiting in heaven for Peggy are her parents, Hugh and Bertha Lofton, two brothers, Booker T and Hugh, Jr.

Georgia Lee leaves to cherish her memories. Charles E. Kelley, Sr, her only child Charles E. Kelley, Jr. and his wife, Kinshineua; her three grandchildren, Angel Barnett, India Kelley and Zaire Kelley; two sisters, Almarie Davis and Carrie Lee and husband, Bobby Jennings all of California; three brothers, Dave Lofton and his wife, Deborah, George Lofton and Lee Edward all of Texas, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends of many, many years.
