Gene Tolbert

Gene Vincent Tolbert “Gino”, 64, of Elgin, formerly of Philadelphia, passed away at home, surrounded by his family, Monday afternoon, August 10, 2020.  He was born on Sunday, March 18, 1956 to Ruth Regina and Allan J. Tolbert, Jr. in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Gene, married Agnes Rosini in 1974, and the couple had two daughters, Jacqueline and Danielle.

He was a master plumber and retired from the Philadelphia Water Department in 2016.  Soon after his retirement in 2016, he moved to Elgin, to enjoy the country life with his family.  He loved his family, animals, and fishing. Gino had a larger than life personality and always loved to make people laugh; and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone he met.  Gene also enjoyed the company of his dog Sam, aka his buddy, who went everywhere he went.

Gene is proceeded in death by his parents, Ruth and Allan J. Tolbert, Jr.; wife, Margaret Spreter-Tolbert; and his brother, Clifford Tolbert

He is survived by his two daughters, Jacqueline Tolbert of Hurlock, MD and Danielle and husband Bryan Giaketti of Elgin, TX; three sisters, Virginia Tolbert of Elgin, Milly Tolbert-Vassef and husband Tony of Elgin, Wanda Tolbert of Austin; two brothers, Allan Tolbert and wife Debbie of Austin, and Charlie Tolbert and wife Maureen of Philadelphia, PA; sister-in-law, Randi Tolbert of Panama City, FL; his granddaughter, three grandsons, one great-grandson, and many nieces and nephews. Gene was loved by so many and will be greatly missed.

The family would like to thank St. David’s South Austin Medical Center, Heart to Heart Hospice, Elgin Funeral Home and all of Gino’s neighbors and friends for all their love and support.

A memorial service is scheduled for a later date.  In lieu of flowers or gifts that donations be made, in Gene’s Memory, to Heart to Heart Hospice of Austin
