Floy Mell Waters

Floy Mell V Cantrell Waters died on March 14, 2023 at the age of 85 after a brief illness. Mell was born to the late Henry and Vina Cantrell of Liberty Hill, Texas on July 9, 1937.  Mell confessed her love for God at an early age and united with First Baptist Church in Elgin Texas in 1961.

Mell was married to Quintus George Waters on December 21, 1961, and to this union four children were born.  Vina Ann Waters of Elgin, Cretha Renae Powell of Elgin, Sylvia Bernice Murphy of Thorndale, and George Henry Waters Sr. of Elgin.  Her beloved husband Quintus preceded her in death in 1994.

Mell served as a cook for the Austin State Hospital for several years prior to her marriage.  She served as a nursery attendant and pre-school age 5 Sunday School teacher for many years  at First Baptist Church.  Mell devoted her life to her family and her church.

Mell is survived by her four children, twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one brother, one sister, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Within the arms of Jesus, Where no heartache and no pain

Will ever be allowed to touch This Prodigal again,

And throughout all eternity

My greatest joy will be That the Shepherd left his ninety-nine

Mell V. Waters, 85, of Elgin, passed away Tuesday evening, March 14, 2023.  She will lie In State at Elgin Funeral Home on Monday, March 20th from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM.  A Funeral Service will be held at First Baptist Church of Elgin on Tuesday, March 21st at 10:00 AM with Pastor Jason Huddleston presiding.  Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
