For I am now ready to be offered and the time of my department is at hand.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
II Timothy 4:6-7
On June 2, 1937, Florida Mae Washington Earls was a blessing from God to Jonas and Johnnie Mae Washington in Bastrop, Texas. She professed a hope in Christ at an early age and was a member at Mount Zion Baptist Church and later united with Lone Star Baptist Church in Shiloh, Texas .
Florida departed this life on November 18, 2019 following a battle with cancer. She was known to many as “Lala” or “Grandma Lala”. Lala devoted her entire life helping others. If it was one memory one could share, it would likely be her collard greens, fried chicken, her tea cakes, her love for fishing, or her desire to always give a helping hand .
Waiting in Heaven for Florida are her parents, a sister, Mattie Grant and two brothers, Arthur Benford and Henry Washington .
Lala was blessed with eighty – two years, and she leaves to cherish her legacy of memories with many who will miss her nurturing spirit, caring deeds, and thoughtful acts – her five daughters, Linda Williams, Pearleane and her husband, Kelley Gerald, Barbara Palmer, Betty and her husband, Mitchell Spead, and Lucy and her husband, Paul Parker; her sons, Billy Ray Washington and his wife, Sharron, Ricky Earls and his wife, Barbara, and Norman Washington. Grandma Lala also leaves behind twenty-eight grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, two sisters; Frances Mae Jones and Mollie Fowler, one brother; James Washington and an unknown number of nieces and nephews covering four and five generations, and a host of other relatives and friends, including her Lone Star Church family.
